The French River Rapids fell 9-2 on Nov. 18 when the Greater Sudbury Cubs paid a visit to the Noelville Arena.

In this Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League game, the Cubs started early, making it a 2-0 game within the first 10 minutes. Cameron Shanks scored at 7:35 followed by Hudson Chitaroni scoring a few minutes later by finishing off a two-on-one in close with Ben Harris.

“Getting one back before the first intermission, the Rapids’ Tyler Trealout won a race down ice for the puck, then cut left and stuffed his chance past the pad of Greater Sudbury goaltender Noah Beaulne,” the league said in a release.

The first ended 2-1 for Sudbury.

In the second period, Noah Kohan struck shorthanded after benefitting from a errant clearing attempt by Grant.

Moving to the final frame, the Rapids converted just 16 seconds in when Lefebvre took a Dominic Bzdyl feed and ripped it past the pad of Beaulne.

The Cubs rebounded with a couple of quick markers courtesy of Ryan Rubic and Brady Bouchard.

Rubic’s effort saw him finish off a McCharles set-up while Bouchard buried a sharp angle shot that leaked through Grant.

The guests kept coming and picked up two more to win convincingly on efforts from Samuel Assinewai, who put one in off a French River skate, and Justin Seguin’s first as he snapped a shot from the right point that flew over the blocker of Dyer.

Finishing the one-sided result was defenceman Josh Kavanagh with a couple of minutes remaining.

With the result, Greater Sudbury becomes the first team in the league to reach the 20-win plateau on the season as they raised their record to 20-6-0-0.

In defeat, the Rapids fell to 6-19-1-0.
