For the first time in more than 20 years, the
Underwood Defendo system will be offered in Sudbury.
This unique self-defence course is designed
for people who may not consider themselves athletic. It teaches
individuals how, with little strength and
athletic ability, they can take control of a
larger attacker.
The introduction seminar, which includes
several hours of practical tactics, will take place Saturday,
May 28 at the YMCA downtown from 9 am to noon. A second session
will take place from 1 pm to 4 pm.
The cost of the introductory course is $75.
This is refundable against the cost of the full course, if a
person chooses to continue.
A special invitation day will take place
Friday, May 27 at the YMCA, strictly for professionals such as
police, military personnel, corrections and police
foundations.
Darren Kleven, facilitator for the Underwood
Defendo course, is proud to bring the system to the north.
"This is for men, women and children,"said Kleven. "It's
orientated for the average person. It's good for people out
there, who want to feel more confident when having to defend
themselves, and to be more aware all while using responsible
force."
The Underwood system was designed by Bill
Underwood, who was the legendary creator of the Canadian
Special Forces Unarmed Combat.
The system effectiveness teaches individuals
proper techniques in a matter for hours, not years.
