Boys' Panhellenic soccer
The Sudbury boys' Panhellenic 1993 team recently wrapped up
their 2006 season in fine form. The squad finished the year by
winning both the Northern Region Soccer League and the Sudbury
Region Competitive Soccer League. In tournament play, the club
won the Lake Superior Cup and posted several positive results
in the provincial Ontario Cup tournament. The players thrilled
the coaching staff with their efforts this season.
The Panhellenic boys' 1991 squad also enjoyed tremendous
success this past summer. The club competed in the Premier
Division of the Central Soccer League (CSL) for the first time
ever and was successful.
The boys finished the season with a record of 9-4-7, which was
good for fifth place overall. With the record, the boys will
not be relegated to a lower division and will continue to play
in the Premier Division in 2007. The squad was also busy
competing in tournaments. They won the Gloucester International
Soccer Tournament, 15-and-under, and placed second at the
annual Sudbury Panhellenic Tournament, despite playing in the
older Under-16 Division. The team rounded out their 2006 season
by playing in the CSL Cup final. They put up a solid fight, but
fell 3-1 to Whitby.
Local league champs
The Croatia Adria Premiere Division men's soccer team also
recently wrapped up their 2006 season with a big win. The team
won the Sudbury regional Competitive Soccer League crown with a
10-1-2 record. They received the Anderson Cup, which is one of
the oldest trophies still in existence for Cup play in
Ontario.
The club kept busy all summer. They also won the Milan Vrab
Memorial Cup at a mid-season tournament by defeating S.C.
Italia 1-0 in the final. They capped off their season by taking
the Frood Hotel Premiere Division Playoff Cup by downing the
Panhellenic S.C. 3-0. Rookie Marco Armiento scored all three
goals, while former Laurentian goalie Ryan Bradley stopped all
shots for the shut out.
