Stephanie Mackay and Jean-Pierre Sauvé have been named the first Keg Steakhouse and Bar Athletes of the week this season. The two soccer players are both veteran defenders, and were standouts in their games this past week.

Mackay (London, Ont.) is playing in her second season with the Lady Vees, after seeing limited action in 2007.

Mackay worked hard in the off-season and impressed the coaching staff in training camp this year.

Her work ethic paid off as she was named a starting defender. In this week's games versus Nipissing and Ottawa, Mackay controlled the back end of the field, winning several one on one battles and starting multiple transition plays.

Sauvé (Pembroke, Ont.) is a fifth year defender for the Voyageurs and has emerged as leader for the Laurentian men's soccer team.

Despite a 1-2 record over the week, Sauvé was instrumental in helping the Voyageurs control the backfield and create quick counter attacks. He won the majority of balls kicked his way and held some of the OUA's premier strikers quiet.

Mackay and Sauvé will take to the pitch this weekend in Sudbury as both the Lady Vees and Voyageurs will try for six points.

The Laurentian teams will take on the RMC Paladins on Saturday and Queen's Golden Gales on Sunday. Men's kick off is scheduled for 12 p.m. while the women will start at 2:15 p.m., both days on the Laurentian Soccer Field.
