Their skill and poise has led them to face
the best in Canada.
Recently, five local biathlon athletes
qualified for the National Cadet Biathlon Championships, and
are currently testing their mettle in Comox, B.C.
The championships run from March 5 to
12.
Brad Sutinen, Kyle Bilinsky, John Colwell and
Megan Jones all qualified from the Walden Irish Cadet Corps
#2964, while Destiny Gratton qualified from the Sudbury Army
Cadet Corps #2912.
The skiers will compete in the
4X1.5-kilometre races, team relay races and the patrol
race.
Tammi Deveau came back from the 2005 Special
Olympics World Games in Nagano, Japan with an impressive haul
of medals.
Deveau, 31, won gold in the 200-metre, and
silvers in the 300-metre and 500-metre events.
Lockerby high school athlete Alex Moser
qualified for the 2005 Canadian K2 Downhill Championships last
week in the Ontario championships.
Moser is off to Alberta from March 21-25.
MacLeod Public School athlete Jillian Keast also qualified for
the K2 champiosnhips.
Congratulations to the St. Charles Cardinals
for winning the NOSSA 'AAA' boys hockey championship with a 2-0
victory over the Widdifield Wildcats on Wednesday. Josh Mayne
and Kris Purawec scored for the Cardinals, who will now move
onto the OFSAA championship.
Cards goalie David Carr threw up a wall,
stopping all 18 shots he faced.
The Marymount Regals senior girls' volleyball
squad was crowned the OFSAA 'A' volleyball champions on
Wednesday with a three sets to two victory.
It marked the first time Marymount has every
won the OFSAA title.
The Cambrian College mixed duo team of
Christianne Guillemette and Ryan Rows won a bronze medal at the
Canadian Colleges Athletic Association Badminton Championships
last weekend. Guillemette and Rows were the Ontario champions
as well earlier this year.
