Lacrosse Lisa Foligno, daughter of Sudbury Wolves head coach and GM Mike, has been named a team captain for her lacrosse team at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. The school compete in the NCAA Division I loop.

Lisa Foligno, daughter of Sudbury Wolves head coach and GM Mike, has been named a team captain for her lacrosse team at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. The school compete in the NCAA Division I loop.
Foligno, 20, has played two seasons for Canisius. Last season, she recorded one goal and two points. In 49 career games, Foligno has 39 ground balls, 22 draw controls and 12 caused turnovers. She earned national honours as a junior in 2006 when she was named an All-American by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Track and field
Athletes from Sudbury's Track North Athletic Club returned from the Ontario Legion Track and Field Championships with four medals and one qualifier for the National Legion Championships.


Representing Track North and Legion District H, Grace Thomson won the 80-m hurdles in the Under-15 category with a time of 12.33. Thomson qualified for the National Championships, to be held Canadian Forces Base Gagetown, in Oromocto New Brunswick, in early August. A Grade 10 student at Lockerby Secondary, she will participate in a week long training camp, culminating in the national championship meet. All expenses will be paid by the Royal Canadian Legion.


Caroline Erhardt, of Espanola, won two medals in the 15 and under category, jumping 5.10 metres in the long jump for a silver medal, and 10.97 for a bronze in the triple jump. She also competed in the 800m, where she placed 8th with a time of 2:29.85.


Ross Proudfoot, also in the 15 and under category, won a bronze medal in the 1500m with a time of 4:14.95. He narrowly missed another medal, placing 4th in the 3000m with a time of 9:30.44.


Other athletes included Tianna Deck, who placed 6th in the long and triple jumps, and 10th in the 100m;  Alannah MacLean, 8th in the 100m and 13th in the 200m, Brett Deck, 8th in both the long and triple jumps and Eric Roque, 9th in the 100m and 11th in the 200m

Golf
The Heart and Stroke Foundation is holding a special golf event on Monday, July 30 at 10 participating golf courses in the Greater Sudbury Area. The Foundation has partnered with CVRD Inco to bring the first ever Golf FORE Heart - Not another Golf Tournament!
The event is being hosted at Timberwolf, Cedar Green, Stone Hill, Pine Grove, Sauble River (Massey), Chelmsford, Forest Ridge, Lively, Twin Stacks, Colonial and the Practice Tee driving range.
Interested golfers need only book a tee time at any of the afore mentioned courses and the club will make a contribution per player to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
This isn't a competitive golf tournament. Fun is the main ingredient and is highly encouraged. It's being billed as a day for golf lovers to get out and support the elimination of heart disease and stroke.

Charity
The Power Play for Easter Seals Kids is now accepting registrations for teams. This year's event takes place on Saturday, Sept. 22 in the Don Cherry's parking lot. Space is limited and fills up fast. The event is open to teams who want to play for kids with physical disabilities and must be 18 years old. Registration fee includes a lunch and dinner and there will be top fundraising awards, incentive prizes and give-aways. Hockey schools
The Sudbury Wolves Summer Development Hockey Camp runs from Aug. 6 to 10 at Cambrian Arena. It's open to players from novice to midget. Each players receives 7.5 hours of on-ice training from Wolves coaches, including assistant coach Bryan Verreault. Cost is $279. Call 675-3941 for more information.

The Copper Cliff Minor Hockey School is ready to go from Aug. 20 to 24 at the McClelland Arena. Registrations will be accepted until July 31. Cost is $130. Call 682-4505 or 682-9535 for more information or to register.

The No Frills Hockey School will instruct players from July 23 to Aug. 11 at the Countryside Arena. The school is run by Stu Duncan and it's in its 27th year. Call 969-5816 or 692-0645 for more information.
