The Annual Laurentian University Alumni and Friends Strokes for Scholarships golf tournament takes place on June 26 at the Lively Golf & Country Club.

This event is held each year in support of scholarships awarded by the Sudbury Chapter of the Alumni Association and Laurentian Athletics.

Each year, when mid-semester rolls around often students tend to find themselves in a financial crunch, a press release stated.

This tournament is important because these scholarships and bursaries are the financial boost students need to carry on without constantly worrying about money.

The registration fee for the tournament is $200, which includes one round of golf, golf cart, lunch, dinner, prizes, specialty holes and more. Registration will run from 11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., and a shot gun start at 12:30 p.m.

During the 18-hole round of golf participants will get to take part in games such as hit the ball in the canoe, compete against a Laurentian Golf Team member, and hole-in-one contests. Lunch will be offered starting at registration and is available throughout the round with dinner, prizes and silent auction following the round.

“This is a great tournament that really benefits the future of the university and community. The support is greatly appreciated,” said Peter Hellstrom, Laurentian's director of athletics.

Those interested in taking part in this fundraising event, can register online at www.lualumni.laurentian.ca. For more information, contact the Laurentian Athletic Department at 675-1151 ext. 1025.
