The Sudbury Canadians U16 dominated Ontario Central Girls Soccer League Cup play this past weekend.

In the semifinals, the Sudbury squad defeated Markham 5-0, with the Canadians goals coming from Kristen Beange, Ashley Melnek, Danielle Rancourt, Cloe Lacasse and Serena SanCartier. In the championship game, SanCartier picked up three goals, while Lacasse netted two.

Coach Frank Malvaso noted that all the girls played well.

"The girls defended extremely well giving the opposition nowhere to go. As a whole, the girls dominated all parts of the field. They played solid soccer and no doubt they are getting stronger and stronger on the provincial scene," the coach said in a release.

The U16 Canadians have recently been promoted to the Ontario Indoor Soccer League (OISL) Level 1 after their third place finish last year. In the new format the Canadians will be playing at different venues including the Ontario Soccer Indoor Center, the BMO field which is home of the professional MLS FC Toronto and a newly built, full field, indoor complex in Oakville.

The OISL Level 1 will showcase eight of the top teams in the province.

"We are honored to be the first northern Ontario team to play in this new format. We know the competition will be tough, but we know we can only get better by playing against the best in the province," Malvaso said in the release.

Sudbury Canadians will be holding a Junior Soccer Development Camp for Girls born in 1997-1999. All are welcome to attend a free elite development program this winter. This camp is designed for players that love the sport and aspire to be the best. The Camp is free to all girls within this age group.
