Lasalle Lancers point guard Kristine Lalonde has been invited to the third annual 2008 Nike All Canada Prospect Basketball Camp, which will host up to 80 of the best girls and boys from across Canada.
The camp is NCAA sanctioned and will host over 50 schools from Canada and the United States. Athletes will be able to showcase their talent before a wide range of university/college basketball scouts and coaches.
A select few will also have the opportunity to play in the camp's Top 40 and Top 20 All-Star Games. The event takes place July 29-30 in Toronto.
The Grade 12 student recently attended the Senior Women's National Team Open Tryouts and the Junior National Team Open Tryouts, where she was invited to the invitation only Junior National Team tryouts.
The tryouts included 24 of the best female athletes 18 years of age and younger in the country, battling it out over three days before the team was selected.
Though Lalonde did not make the team, she gained some valuable skills and competition experience at the national level and was coached by Elite National Team coaches.
Lalonde is currently training with the U17 Provincial Basketball Team at Guelph University and will have four more four-day training camps before the team heads to Prince Edward Island from August 17-25 for the Canadian National U17 Championships.
The 16-year-old has won three gold medals with Team Ontario over the last three years, and will try to make it number four. Only three players returned from the U17 team's 12 person roster from last year.
