Fans will be in store for some highly anticipated hockey action this weekend as local rivals face off in round two of the Great North Midget League playoff series.

"The one thing I'm certain of, it's going to be a good series...and I'm hoping we're going to win," said Albert Corradini, general manager for the Nickel Capital Wolves.

The Nickel Capital Wolves are going head to head this weekend with the Nickel City Sons. The teams finished the season in second and third place respectively, and are both currently 3 and 0 after finishing the first round of playoffs.

"I think we're playing decent hockey. I'm hopeful, I know it's going to be a really tough series, Nickel City is a very good team and they're playing good hockey as well," said Corradini.

Brent Battistelli, coach of the Nickel City Sons, said that there is a friendly rivalry between the Capital Wolves, and that being cross-town competitors has always brought out the best in both teams.

"I think our games have been close and competitive, and we're looking forward to this round," said Battistelli.

The Nickel Capital Wolves are coming off three straight wins over North Bay, while the Sons were victorious over Kapuskasing.

"We were confident going into the series, but we certainly wanted to make sure we were playing our game," said the Sons coach.

He added that he's pleased with his team's performance this season, and that they reached their goal of finishing in the top three. Now he wants to keep that momentum going into the next round.

"Our goal is to compete and play at the level that we're capable of. We feel confident that if we do that, it will be a great series."

The series begins this Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Chelmsford Arena. Game two will take place Wednesday Feb. 25 at 7:20 p.m. at the Countryside Arena. Game three will take place Saturday, Feb. 28 at 7:20 pm at the Countryside Arena.
