Sudbury Junior Wolves defeated by Islanders

Sudbury Northern Life  The Kal Tire Sudbury Junior Wolves were defeated by the Manitoulin Islanders Wednesday night as the Islanders recorded their second victory of the season in a 4-3 victory over the Jr. Wolves at the Garson Arena.

The Kal Tire Sudbury Junior Wolves were defeated by the Manitoulin Islanders Wednesday night as the Islanders recorded their second victory of the season in a 4-3 victory over the Jr. Wolves at the Garson Arena.

view more photos Chris Kangas got on the board first for the Jr. Wolves five minutes into the first period, with assists by Jeff Verreault and Evan Daciuk. The Islanders were quick to follow suit just over a minute later with Brodie Barron adding a marker, making it a tied game. Manitoulin would add another goal late in the period taking a 2-1 lead.

Erik Belanger evened things out for the Jr. Wolves in the second with assists by Tyler Arpers and Chris Pontes. The Islanders were able to hit the board two more times before the end of the period giving them a 4-2 lead heading into the third.

Zach McGillis scored the final goal in the third for the Jr. Wolves assisted by Chris Kangas to end the game 4-3 for the Islanders.

Former Jr. Wolves' goaltender John Hillier recorded the victory for the Islanders while Jr. Wolves Joey Delwo took the loss in net. The Jr. Wolves will try and rebound Friday night when they travel to Temiscaming to face the Royals.

The Jr. Wolves will close out their pre-Christmas schedule next Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. against the Abitibi Eskimos at the Garson Arena.

$2,000 in gift certificates from the New Sudbury Centre and a new set of winter tires from Kal Tire will be awarded to lucky Jr. Wolves fans at next Wednesday's game.
