Sudbury Sprinters impress over the weekend

Speed skater Amber Ranich represented Sudbury in the Ontario LT Olympic Style and Mass Start Meet over the weekend in Ottawa, Ontario.

Ranich captured gold in the Intermediate Women division in Mass Start while picking up a seventh place finish in Olympic Style in the Junior Women Division.

Ranich will compete in the Long Track Provincial Championships to be held in Sault Ste. Marie at the end of the month.

Emily Gaito, also of the Sudbury Sprinters Speed Skating Club, competed over the weekend at the Olympic Oval in Lake Placid, New York in a 40 km Long Track Marathon, which she completed in just over one hour and 33 minutes. She finished first in her age class of 19-29 year olds.

Gaito, after competing in her first marathon, will be competing in Portland, Ontario for her next marathon of 50 km at the sixth International Big Rideau Lake Speed Skating Marathon at the end of the month.
