The Sudbury Wolves travelled to Brampton on Thursday for a matchup with the Battalion.

While both teams were newly re-stocked with returning players and new additions, the Wolves were unable to contain the Battalion as they took the loss by a final of 6 to 2.

The Battalion were the first to get on the board early in the first period on a shorthanded goal by Matt Duchene.

The Wolves responded quickly though with a power play goal by rookie John McFarland who was assisted by Sergei Sheleg and the newly returned Akim Aliu. The Battalion did regain the lead before the end of the frame on a second goal by Duchene.

The second period was all Battalion as the troops scored four unanswered goals to take a commanding 6-1 lead into the second intermission. The goals were scored by Cody Hodgson, Kyle Decoste, Duchene and Evgeny Grachev.

The third period saw the Wolves score their second goal near the end of the frame, but were just unable to get anything going for the comeback. Scoring for the Wolves was Eric O'Dell assisted by Jared Staal.

Staring in net for the Wolves was Alain Valiquette who made 30 saves in the losing effort, while Battalion netminder Patrick Killeen made 16 saves for the win. The Wolves return to action tonight at the Sudbury Arena where they will take on the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
