The Eurocamp Summer Stars' five-game winning streak came to an end in the semi-final match-up at the One Hockey AAA Novice Hockey tournament held in Philadelphia last week.

They rolled through the round robin with a perfect 4-0 record before defeating Motor City (Soo Michigan) 6-2 in the quarter finals for the second time during the tournament.

The line of Billy Moskal (Sudbury), Damien Giroux (Valley East) and Lucas Edmonds (North Bay), dominated the game on the offensive side with five out of six goals. Matty Mayhew's  (Wahnapitae) game between the pipes enabled the team to move forward to the semifinal.

Although, the Summer Stars fell short to Motor City, Giroux was selected as the MVP All Star of the tournament, with eight goals and eight assists, for 16 points in total.

“Overall, the experience was great for the kids and parents,” said head coach Randy Edmonds. “We had a fantastic group of kids that all behaved and enjoyed both the tournament and city, representing northern Ontario at this elite tournament in Philadephia. The group became one big family over the course of a few days, which made my job easy as a coach.”

Next on the agenda for the Eurocamp Summer Stars is the Canada Wonderland Tournament in Toronto in mid-August, which includes many of Ontario’s top AAA teams.
