Rookie cross-country star Gracie Tetzlaf and lacrosse standout Casey Swann have been named Laurentian's Keg Steakhouse and Bar athletes of the week for the week ending September 28, 2008.
Tetzlaf won the Harry Anderson Invitational meet in Rochester, New York, while Swann netted all three of the Voyageurs goals on Saturday against McMaster.
A native of Trenton, Ontario, Tetzlaf ran her second personal best in as many meets at the Harry Anderson Invitational, this weekend. Her time of 18:41 in the five kilometre race gave her the overall championship and she was an integral part of the Lady Vees setting a team record and claiming the title.
The race featured 85 runners from eight universities, seven of which are part of NCAA Division III. The first year Sports Administration has quickly become a team leader, having been low Lady Vee at each of the team's first three races.
Swann, a Peterborough, Ontario native, netted his first hat-trick of the season on Saturday versus the difficult McMaster Marauders. Swann's three tallies were Laurentian's only three on the day, as the Voyageurs fell 12-3.
Swann was effective in penetrating the defenders and finding ways to get to the net. The second year attack was a big part of the Voyageurs being able to control the ball in the offensive end of the field.
Tetzlaf and her Lady Vees teammates will continue to train as they prepare for their next race, Thursday, October 9 they head to London, Ontario for the Mustang Open.
Swann will lead the Voyageurs on a busy road trip next week as they play a pair against defending Beggataway Cup champions, the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines on Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. before traveling to Hamilton for a rematch with the Marauders on Sunday at 12 p.m.
