The Sudbury Five have signed shooting-guard Tyrell Gumbs-Frater for the upcoming 2022 season.

Gumbs-Frater is a 6-4 tall shooting guard from Scarborough and joins the Sudbury Five for his rookie professional season from Coastal Carolina University, where he averaged 10 points over three seasons on 43-per-cent shooting from the three-point line.

In his senior season, he started 11 of 33 games while helping lead the Chanticleers to eight conference wins in a COVID-shortened season.

“I'm very excited to have Tyrell sign with us for his first professional season,” said Sudbury Five head coach and general manager Elliott Etherington.

“As a young player coming in, he'll get to learn from some great players in front of him. From what I've heard from his former coaches about his character and work ethic, he is a guy who will definitely compete day in and day out.

“I really believe he can be one of the most impactful rookies in the league once we get going. The team is taking shape and it's about time we get the guys up here and start our chase for a championship,” Etherington said.

Fans will get their first chance to see Gumbs-Frater in action when the Five hit the court at the Sudbury Arena on Feb. 21 when the NBLC kicks off their 10th anniversary season.
