Gord Apolloni's ONTC Top Glove Boxing Academy made a clean sweep at the Ontario versus Quebec event in Victoriaville over the weekend.
Local boxers Ben Ollila, Brian Derro, Josh Paavola, and Lee Thibeault all posted victories over their Quebec opponents.
Brian Derro was too much for Steven Brassard of Plassiesville. The Lockerby Composite Secondary School student was eager for the win and went to work immediately at the bell.
The 14-year-old 96 pound Derro caught Brassard with a right hand to the body. The Quebec boxer could not take the punishment as the referee stepped in and stopped the bout in the first round.
Josh Paavola, a Lockerby High School student as well, went three rounds for his win. At no time in the bout was Paavola behind in points.
Paavola displayed his superior skill in each round, winning the bout 13 to 4.
Ben Ollila is an import to Sudbury as his home is Timmins and he belongs to the Timmins Boxing Club.
The University of Waterloo student, who has his placement for school here in Sudbury, boxed for the second time of his career. Ollila dominated with a simple strategy of hit and don't get hit, making his opponent fall into the Timmins native strategy constantly.
Ollila received the best bout of the evening for his efforts.
The main event featured ONTC's Top Glove Boxing academy's Lee Thibeault against Quebec's Yoan Nadeau.
It was the strategy again that won the bout here - simple hit and don't get hit, in out strategy that eventually put Nadeau into submission in the third round.  ONTC's Top Glove Boxing Academy brought home four victories and a best bout award, making it a first time clean sweep competition in Quebec.
The next boxing show at the ONTC Top Glove Boxing Academy, will be February 21, 2009.
