Travelling Wolves saddle Barrie Colts 7-3

Sudbury battles their way to a big win at Sadlon Arena

Sudbury Wolves forward Quentin Musty received First Star honours following the team's Jan. 18 win over the Barrie Colts. Musty ended the the game with two goals and four assists for a six-point night. 

The Sudbury Wolves were on the road on Thursday night in Barrie to take on the Colts, hoping to rebound from an 11-7 loss at the hands of the Windsor Spitfires just five nights prior.

Marcus Vandenberg was called upon to backstop the Wolves in goal while Sam Hillebrandt was the starting goal for the Colts. 

Just 5:31 into the game, Dalibor Dvorsky gave the Wolves a 1-0 lead with his 19th goal of the season, with assists going to Quentin Musty and Evan Konyen.

Under two minutes later, Barrie would tie the game thanks to a goal from Tai York, his eighth of the season, making the score 1-1.

With 6:12 remaining in the first period, Quentin Musty scored his 20th goal of the season to put Sudbury back in the lead by a score of 2-1. 

Barrie would tie the game once again with 2:54 remaining in the opening period with Cole Beaudoin’s 18th goal of the season, tying the game 2-2 after the first 20 minutes of play. 

At only 2:30 of the second period, Matthew Mania would once again give Sudbury the lead with his third goal of the season, making the score 3-2 for the Wolves. 

With just over 11 and a half minutes to go in the middle frame, Dvorsky scored his second goal of the night, and 20th of the season, to give the Wolves a two-goal lead by a score of 4-2. 

With 4:15 remaining in the period, Musty continued filling up the scoreboard, notching his second goal of the game and fifth point of the night, to give the Wolves a 5-2 lead. 

Barrie would pull within two with Tai York’s second goal of the game, making the score 5-3 for the Wolves with one period remaining in the game. 

The third period was a physical affair with seven penalties combined in the period and little scoring, until David Goyette scored his 25th goal of the season for Sudbury giving the Wolves a 6-3 lead with 1:32 remaining in the game. 

Thirteen seconds later, the Wolves sealed a 7-3 victory thanks to Nick Yearwood’s fifth goal of the season.

With the win, the Sudbury Wolves now hold a record of 22 wins, 13 regulation losses, three overtime losses and two 2 shootout losses on the season, good for first place in both the Central Division and the Eastern Conference of the Ontario Hockey League

The Wolves are back at it on Friday night at Sudbury Arena against the Erie Otters with a scheduled puck drop of 7:05 p.m.
