The Laurentian University basketball squads
had a perfect weekend. The men and women each won a pair of
games in the Golden Horseshoe.
On Friday, the men smashed the Ryerson Rams
80-59.
Ben Palmer lead the charge for the Voyageurs
with 18 points and eight rebounds. Andy Greig knocked down 16
points in the win.
The men then played the University of Toronto
on Saturday, and walked away with an impressive
come-from-behind 63-62 win.
Despite being down 18 points at halftime, the
Voyageurs rallied in the second half to take the victory.
Greig was the top point-getter, with
14.
Â"I thought we showed a lot of resolve in our
come back,Â" said head coach Virgil Hill.
The wins were crucial to the men as they had
lost five of their first six games. With the two victories, the
Voyageurs' record now stands at 3-5.
On Friday, the Lady Vees dumped Ryerson
69-60.
The team rode a second-half surge, which saw
them outscore Ryerson 42-31, to claim the win.
Cassandra Carpenter lead the way with 21
points and 11 rebounds - her seventh double-double in eight
games. She's averaging 19 points and 11 rebounds per
game.
Tierney Hoo also hit double figures, scoring
17 points.
On Saturday, the women dismantled Toronto
79-70.
The Lady Vees overcame a one-point,
first-half deficit, and cruised to the win by scoring 49 points
in the second half.
Carpenter was the top scorer again,
collecting 25 points.
Â"We played with a lot of heart and emotion
in the second half,Â" said head coach Mike Clarke. Â"We got the
tempo up and played our style of game.Â"
