The Laurentian Voyageurs men's soccer team is getting prepared to kick off against the RMC Paladins and Queen's Golden Gales this weekend.
The Paladins visit Laurentian on Saturday September 13 and Queen's will play in Sudbury on Sunday, September 14. Both games have a scheduled start time of 12 p.m. and will take place on the Laurentian Soccer Field.
The Voyageurs swept the Paladins in 2007 in two regular season games Laurentian won 2-0 on their home field in mid-September and followed that up with a 2-1 victory on the road eight days later.
Expect a tough physical style game from RMC and constant pressure with their relentless attitude. The Paladins are 0-2-0 making them dangerous as they look for their first victory of the young campaign.
The Queen's Golden Gales are always a tough team to compete against because of their mix of skill and physicality which punishes opponents who make mistakes. The Voyageurs were unable to find the back of the net in a home and home series with the Golden Gales last year.
Queen's notched three goals in Sudbury, and then scored two more on their home soil less than a week later to complete the sweep. The Golden Gales take to the pitch this weekend with 1-1-0 record.
"We need to bounce back from a tough weekend in Toronto and compete hard for 90 minutes in both games," said Carlo Castrechino, the Voyageurs head coach, in a release.
"We have been punished for our lack of concentration at times in games which leads to scoring opportunities against us."
The Laurentian men, 1-2-0 on the season, will face the pair of Kingston schools at the Laurentian Soccer Field at 12 p.m. each day. Saturday the Paladins are in Sudbury, while Sunday it will be Queen's who takes the pitch against the Voyageurs.
