The Laurentian Voyageurs men's Soccer team took care of
business recently, taking down the visiting Trent University
Excalibur and earning a coveted playoff spot. The Voyageurs
finished the regular season in fifth place in the OUA East
Division with a record of 5-8-1.
The Nipissing Lakers finished the regular season in fourth
place with a record of 5-6-3. The two teams have really fired
up the Northern Ontario rivalry in recent years and the game's
are extremely competitive. The two teams solved nothing in the
regular season with both coming away with one win each.
Nippissing bested Laurentian during a home game back on Sept.
5. The Voyageurs gained their revenge on Oct. 17, when they
beat Nipissing 2-0 on their home turf.
The team has relied heavily on goalie Andre Gomes, who had four
shut outs this season as a rookie. Midfielder Daniel Keir led
the team in goals with four. Eight other players also scored at
least one goal each for Laurentian.
In women's action, the Lady Vees soccer team has missed the
playoffs for 2007. The team went 2-7-7 in the regular season
and finished in sixth place in the OUA East Division. The women
ended their season with 1-1 draw against Trent University this
past weekend. Forward Caitlin Kelly led the team with five
goals in 16 games.
