The Laurentian Voyageurs men's soccer team has cracked the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) top 10 teams. The team entered national rankings at number seven with a 4-0-1 record. The Voyageurs sit atop the OUA east division with 13 points — five clear of second place University of Toronto.

The defending national champion York Lions (2-2-0) of the OUA west are the only school from Ontario ahead of Laurentian in the standings, in a tie at number four. The Montreal Carabins are ranked number one in the nation with a 3-0-1 record.

The Voyageurs won twice last weekend, including a 2-1 victory over the then number eight seeded Queen's Gaels and a 4-0 runaway against the RMC Paladins. The Voyageurs have also recorded victories against the Nipissing Lakers and Trent Excalibur, as well as a tie with the Carleton Ravens in the team's season opener. Carleton was ranked number five in Canada at the time.

This week will mark the first time in more than a decade that the Voyageurs will sit in the national rankings.

“It's nice to be recognized for the efforts of the players since the beginning of the season,” said head coach Carlo Castrechino. “There is a lot more soccer to be played and we want to move up by the end of the year.”

The Voyageurs will be hosting the University of Toronto Varsity Blues on Sept. 26 and Ryerson Rams on Sept. 27. Both games will take place on the Laurentian soccer field and will kick-off at 2:15 p.m.
