The Sudbury Wolves will soon have a new goaltender in their midst, acquiring Marcus

Vandenberg from the Niagara IceDogs in exchange for two OHL draft picks.

“We are very excited to add Marcus to our team. He has had some outstanding games this season.” Sudbury Wolves VP & General Manager Rob Papineau said in a media release.

“Most recently, Marcus has come off a pair of wins against two of the top teams in Kitchener and in Peterborough which he was named first star honours from both games and was named the OHL Goalie of the Week. With Jakub going to the World Juniors on Sunday we have 8 games over that break, and we really felt a need to add depth in goal for what we are looking to accomplish this season.”

Vandenberg is from Dorchester, and was drafted by the Kitchener Rangers in the ninth-round of the 2020 OHL Priority Selections. He played 29 games with the Rangers, finishing the 2022-23 season with a 3.31 goals against average and a .898 save percentage in 23 regular season games.

Niagara received Vandenberg ahead of the 2023-24 season, where he has played 13 games with a 3.96 goals against average and a .889 save percentage.

On Dec. 4, the OHL announced Vandenberg as Goaltender of the Week following back-to-back wins against his former team the Kitchener Rangers and the Peterborough Petes,  posting a 1.96 goals-against average and .951 save percentage, stopping a total of 77 shots.
