The Sudbury Wolves took three of a possible six points over the weekend, going 1-1-0-1.

On Sunday, the Wolves lost a close match 2-1 to the Kitchener Rangers in Kitchener.

It was a game for the power play players as all three goals were scored on the man advantage.

The Rangers held a 2-0 lead in the third period thanks to goals by Justin Azevedo and Matt Auffrey.

Keaton Turkiewicz scored the lone goal for the Wolves at 11:44 of the third frame to make things interesting, but even with their goalie pulled in the dying seconds of the contest, the Wolves couldn't muster another goal.

Goalie Kevin Beech was solid again, thwarting 36 of 38 Kitchener shots fired his way.

On Saturday, Dec. 31, the Wolves marched into Mississauga and trimmed the IceDogs 4-3.

Kevin Baker, Devin DiDiomete, Anton Hedman and Turkiewicz, with the game winner, all scored for Sudbury.

Beech was sensational, making 41 saves in the game for his 19th win of the season.

The Wolves were deadly on the power play, scoring on three of six chances.

On Friday, Dec. 30, Sudbury hosted the Saginaw Spirit. The game marked the return of former Wolves star Ryan McDonough, who was traded to the Spirit after the 2004-05 season.

Sudbury lost 3-2 in shoot out.

Kevin Baker and Ryan Hastings scored for the Wolves.

Jesse Gimblett and Patrick Asselin replied for the Spirit.

In the shoot out, all three Wolves shooters (Matt Dias, Nick Foligno and Baker) were stopped by Francois Thuot.

Asselin scored in the shoot out to give Saginaw the victory.

McDonough was held to one assist.

With the weekend results, the Wolves are still clutching onto third place in the Central Division and fifth place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 19-15-1-2, good for 41 points.

Sudbury is two points behind Brampton for second in the Central Division and one point ahead of Toronto for third.

The Wolves are right back into action this Friday when they host the Plymouth Whalers. Game time at the Sudbury Arena is 7:30 pm.
