The Sudbury Wolves finished off the first half of the
2008/09 season on the road in a match-up versus the Erie Otters
Saturday evening. It was a hard-fought battle for most of the
game, but the Wolves ended up on the losing end with a final
score of 7-5.
 
The Wolves were the first to get on the board early in the
first period on a goal by John Kurtz, who was assisted by Jared
Staal. Late in the frame, the Otters took a 2-1 lead with goals
by Justin Hodgman and Ryan O'Reilly.
The Wolves would take over in the second period after tying the game early in the period with a goal by Brett Thompson and assisted by Frankie Santini and Patrik Lusnak. The Otters quickly regained the lead on a goal by Paul Cianfrini.
The Wolves regained control before the end of the period scoring two more unanswered goals, and taking a 4-3 lead into the intermission. The Wolves goals were scored by John McFarland with an assist from Lusnak, and Kurtz, who got the assist once again from Staal.
The Otters came out early in the third period to tie up the
contest with a second goal from Hodgman. The Wolves regained
the lead shortly after on a marker from Lusnak, but saw the
Otters tie things up once again on a second goal from
O'Reilly. The Otters regained the lead on a goal by Brandon
Biggers. They would add an empty net goal by Hodgman to secure
the win.
 
Sudbury Wolves netminder Andrew Loverock made 47 saves in the
loss, while Otters goaltender Shane Owen made 23 saves for the
win.
The Wolves are now off for the Christmas break, and will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 30 when they host the Soo Greyhounds.
