Wolves defeat Erie Otters on weekend

Posted by Sudbury Northern Life   The Sudbury Wolves continued their weekend winning ways as they defeated the visiting Erie Otters by a score of five to one Saturday night at the Sudbury Arena.

The Sudbury Wolves continued their weekend winning ways as they defeated the visiting Erie Otters by a score of five to one Saturday night at the Sudbury Arena.

The Wolves jumped out to an early lead with two unanswered goals in first period. The first Wolves goal was scored by Eric O'Dell with an assist by Kyle Tarini. The second goal was power play marker by Marcus Foligno and assisted by Daniel Maggio and Sergei Sheleg.

The Otters got on the board early in the second period to cut the lead to 2 - 1 with a goal by Mike Cazzola. The Wolves responded quickly though by scoring two more goals to take a 4 - 1 lead into the final frame.

The first goal came from Tyler Sheldrake and was unassisted. The second goal was a power play marker from rookie John McFarland, which was assisted by Foligno and Sheleg.

The lone goal in the third period was scored by Patrik Lusnak, and assisted by Jared Staal and O'Dell.

In the net from the Wolves was Andrew Loverock, who rebounded nicely from a shaky start earlier in the week. Loverock made 35 saves in the winning effort. Minding the net for the Otters was Jaroslav Janus. However, he was replaced in the third period by Shane Owen. The tandem made 33 saves for the loss.

The Molson Three Stars for the game were - first star - Eric O'Dell, second star - Andrew Loverock and third star - Tyler Sheldrake.

The Wolves return to action on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 when they host the visiting Kingston Frontenacs for their only visit to the Nickel City this season. The game time is 7:30 p.m.
