The Sudbury Wolves celebrate their 6-3 win against the Mississauga Steelheads Sunday, Feb. 4.

The Sudbury Wolves were back on home ice on Sunday afternoon taking on the powerhouse Mississauga Steelheads.

Two standouts were in net for their respective teams for this game, as Ryerson got the nod for Mississauga and Jakub Vondras was named the starting goaltender for Sudbury.

The Wolves didn’t get off to the start they were hoping for in this game, as 10:49 into the first period former Wolf Marc Boudreau scored his 10th goal of the season to give the Steelheads a 1-0 lead.

2:05 later Finn Harding scored his sixth goal of the season to put Mississauga ahead 2-0.

Thirty-one seconds later, Ryan Pryce scored his second of the season for the Wolves to make the score 2-1 for Mississauga, which is where the game stood heading into the first intermission.

Just under six minutes into the middle frame, Landon McCallum scored his 17th goal of the season for the Wolves to tie the game 2-2.

Leenders stopped the Wolves on a number of scoring chances to keep the score tied until Alex Pharand scored his 12th goal of the season to put the Wolves in the lead for the first time in the game by a score of 3-2 with 4:52 remaining in the second period.

With 1:48 remaining in the period, Jakub Fibigr tied the game for the Steelheads with his sixth goal of the season, making the score 3-3 with one period remaining in the game.

At the 2:56 mark of the third period, Pharand scored his second of the game to once again give the Wolves the lead by a score of 4-3.

Under two minutes later Kocha Delic scored his 17th goal of the season to give the Wolves some insurance in the form of a 5-3 lead.

Sudbury would seal the victory with 14:54 remaining in the game thank to a goal from Nathan Villeneuve, his 14th of the season to give the Sudbury Wolves a 6-3 win.

The Wolves showed more discipline in this game, with only four total penalty minutes, versus 30 the previous game.

With the win, the Sudbury Wolves hold a record of 27 wins, 15 regulation losses, three overtime losses and two shootout losses.

The Wolves will take the ice Wednesday night at the Sudbury Community Arena against Northern Ontario rivals the Sault. Ste. Marie Greyhounds with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
