Wolves fall 5-3 to Whalers

The Sudbury Wolves traded goals with the Plymouth Whalers but came out on the losing end of a 5-3 decision Friday night at the Compuware Sports Arena.

Veteran players Nick Foligno, Devin DiDiomete, Akim Aliu, Matt Dias and Kevin Baker will be reporting in for duty at the Wolves training camp.

The Sudbury Wolves traded goals with the Plymouth Whalers but came out on the losing end of a 5-3 decision Friday night at the Compuware Sports Arena.

After Akim Aliu tied the game at three on a powerplay goal early in the third period, Plymouth forward Evan Brophey scored the game-winner one minute and 27 seconds later. Winger Tom Sesito completed the hat-trick and iced the game for the Whalers with an empty net goal in the final minute.

Kevin Baker, Jesse Messier both scored a goal and an assist for the Wolves, while Adam McQuaid had two helpers. Jonathan D'Aversa finished the game a minus-4 and Nick Foligno finished a minus-3.

Goalie Kevin Beech stopped 33 of 37 shots in the loss.

The Wolves have a 15-13-2-2 record and sit in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, two points ahead of the Peterborough Petes.

Sudbury's next game is Dec. 15 at home versus the Brampton Battalion. Game time is 7:30 pm.
