There were six points available for the Sudbury Wolves this past weekend, and they needed just one point to clinch a playoff spot.It wasn't pretty, but the Wolves got the job done.
On Friday night, Sudbury earned their ticket into the 2007
playoffs by losing 3-2 in shootout to Sault Ste. Marie at the
Sudbury Arena and picked up one point for the loss.
Andrew Self and Nick Foligno scored for Sudbury, while goalie
Sebastian Dahm made 23 saves.
David Kuchejda and Lively's Andrew Desjardins scored in
regulation for the Greyhounds.
In the shootout, Soo's Cody Thornton and Dustin Jeffrey
scored, while Justin Donati and Akim Aliu failed to score for
Sudbury.
On Saturday, Sudbury marched into Barrie and was pounded 5-0.
Local boy Cory McGillis did the most damage by scoring two
goals for the Colts. Hunter Tremblay also had two goals, while
Kris Sparre added a single tally for Barrie.
Dahm made 35 saves in the loss, while Sudbury mustered up 30
shots.
On Sunday, the Wolves finished off the weekend with a trip to
Brampton to take on the Battalion.
It was a close game, but Brampton won 2-1 in overtime. John
Hughes scored both goals for the Battalion. Donati scored the
lone marker for Sudbury tying things up with about six minutes
remaining in regulation time.
Dahm was in the pipes again, and made 15 saves. Sudbury managed
just 24 shots in the game.
The Wolves are back on the ice this Friday when they host
Brampton for their final regular season home game of the
2006-07 season. Game time is 7:30 pm.
