Wolves host Bulldogs for home opener Friday

Pack hosts the Bulldogs and the Battalion for a double-header opening weekend

The Sudbury Wolves are ready for another season of hockey and fans will get their first chance to run with the Pack on Sept. 28.

The Wolves open the season with a double-header weekend, hosting the Brantford Bulldogs on Friday night for a 7:05 p.m. tilt and then the North Bay Battalion for a Sunday match at 2:05 p.m.  

“Come celebrate the start of the season! Join the Wolves early Friday, for a pre-game party outside with  facepainting, mini-games, live music and more,” the team said in a release.

The Wolves enter the season featuring a roster containing seven NHL prospects, including the likes of newly signed Djibril Toure (OTT), 2023 NHL Draft selections Quentin Musty (SJS), Alex Pharand (CHI),  Matthew Mania (LAK), Jakub Vondras (CAR), David Goyette (SEA) and Nolan Collins (PIT). 

David Goyette looks to build off a season where he led the Pack in scoring with 92 points (41 goals and 51 assists). Wolves forward Devin Mauro finished the pre-season leading the team with four points, including three goals and an assist. Goaltender Nate Krawchuk finished the pre-season after three games with a 0.913 save percentage with a 3.04 goals against average.  

Meanwhile, Brantford concluded their pre-season at first in the East Division. The 2023 OHL eighth-overall selection Jake O’Brien led the Bulldogs with six points in six pre-season games. The Bulldogs roster features five NHL prospects, including Nick Lardis (CHI), Florian Xhekaj (MTL), Jorian Donovan (OTT), Cole Brown (NJD), and  Patrick Thomas (WSH). 

Friday’s game is sponsored by Desjardins, who will be on-hand with prizes and giveaways for lucky fans. 

Following Friday’s home opener, the Pack welcomes the Battalion to the Den on Sunday for the first time this season. The Battalion’s roster features six NHL prospects including, Justin Ertel (DAL), Liam  Arnsby (FLA), Pasquale Zito (DET), Tnias Mathurin (DET), Ty Nelson (SEA), and Dom DiVincentiss (WPG). 

Sunday is Jersey giveaway day where kids 12 and under receive a free Sudbury Wolves practice jersey with their valid game ticket (while supplies last).
