On Oct. 4, the Sudbury Wolves will be walking to support Cpl. Bill Kerr, a Sudbury soldier who was seriously wounded in Afghanistan.

“The Sudbury Wolves are honoured to assist and participate in the Hike for a Hero walk. We are confident that it will be a huge success,” said Sudbury Wolves president Blaine Smith.

Hike for a Hero is an event being held to raise funds to assist in providing Kerr with a home, which will accommodate his injuries and new lifestyle. Dalron Homes and its contractors are willing to build an accessible home for about $300,000, according to a press release.

The Hike for a Hero event is the first of its kind in Canada and serves as a tribute to Canada's brave soldiers, including Sudbury's own Cpl. Kerr, the press release stated. The event will take place at the new Highway 69 four-lane extension in the South End. The new highway extension will be sectioned into lengths and participants are able to run or walk from 1-10 kilomentres. Participants also have the option to hike 13 kilometres with some of Sudbury's Irish Regiment of Canada soldiers.

“It is wonderful to have the support of the Sudbury Wolves and we are very proud and excited that they are attending this event,” said Home for a Hero committee co-chair Derik McArthur.
