The Sudbury Wolves took a loss in the Sault Wednesday night as the Greyhounds walked away with 6-4 victory.

The Sudbury Wolves were coming off a win in Oshawa on Sunday, while the Soo Greyhounds were trying to snap an 11-game losing streak for their hometown fans.

The Soo got on the board first as former Sudbury Wolves forward Brett Thompson scored at the 3:16 mark of the opening frame. The Hounds would take the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Greyhounds came out strong in the second period and netted three more goals before the four minute mark of the period. The Wolves  got on the board at the midway point of the frame with a goal by Soo native Matt Dias, and assists from Eric O'Dell and Frankie Santini.

The Hounds regained their four goal lead just two minutes later on a goal by Jake Carrick. The Wolves closed the gap again just under three minutes later on a power play goal by Akim Aliu with assists from Daniel Maggio and Dias. The teams headed into the second intermission with the Wolves trailing by a score of 5-2.

The Hounds came out in the third period, scoring an early power play goal to regain the four point lead. The Wolves added two more goals in the final five minutes by O'Dell and Jared Staal, but it wouldn't be enough as the Wolves took a 6-4 loss.

Wolves netminders Loverock and Alain Valiquette combined to make 28 saves, with 14 saves by Valiquette in the third period alone. The Greyhounds goaltender Bryce O'Hagan made 27 saves in the winning effort.

Despite the loss, the Wolves retain the lead in the Bell Challenge Cup series with three wins to the Soo's two wins. The final game of the series will take place at the Sudbury Arena on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m.

The Wolves now need to regroup as they return to action on Friday, Feb. 13 to host the visiting Sudbury native Vern Cooper and the Plymouth Whalers.
