The Wolves missed out on an opportunity to
move up in the standings this weekend, losing two of three
games.
The weekend began with a tough 3-0 loss at
the Sudbury Arena Friday night at the hands of the Owen Sound
Attack. Head coach Mike Foligno was suspended for two games by
the OHL after he got in the referee's face for what bench
boss referred to as "questionable calls."
Wolves' defenceman Nick Tuzzolino was
also suspended for two games following the Owen Sound match for
instigating a fight with Trevor Koverko.
Sudbury put forth a better effort Saturday
for Inco's Sudbury Saturday Night celebration, with a
convincing 9-1 thrashing of the Mississauga Ice Dogs. Nick
Foligno registered a hat trick in the win while Mike Mills,
Gary Friesen, Benoit Pouliot and Junior Wolves call-up Brendan
Biedermann all had multi-point efforts.
The Wolves' special teams were clicking
Saturday, scoring four times on six power play chances and
shutting down Mississauga, who went 0-7 with the man
advantage.
Sudbury hit the road Sunday for a game versus
their division rivals, the Toronto St. Micheal's
Majors.
The Majors' exploded out of the gate,
scoring four goals in the first period. Toronto's Justin
Donati had a game to remember with two goals and two assists.
Despite scoring three goals to try and even the score, and
firing 50 pucks at Majors' goalie Wayne Savage, the Wolves
came up short, falling 4-3.
Defencemen Jonathan D'Aversa, Adam
McQuaid and forward Benoit Pouliot scored for Sudbury.
The Wolves' next game is Wednesday night
in Sault Ste. Marie against the Greyhounds. The Wolves have
three wins in four games versus the Greyhounds this
season.
