It was a Sudbury Saturday Night for Wolves' fans who packed the arena to witness the Pack defeat the Barrie Colts 4-2.

Sudbury Video News - Sudbury Saturday Night The Wolves were coming off a 4-3 loss to the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors Friday night, but found their confidence in the third frame Saturday night to come off with the win.

"I thought we had some jump, we played smart, we didn't give Barrie a whole lot to work with tonight," said the Sudbury Wolves head coach and general manager Mike Foligno.

The game started off slow as the Colts got on the board first with less than five minutes left in the first period. The Wolves were able to tie things up in the second, just over the halfway mark with an unassisted goal by Akim Aliu.

Wolves player Eric O'Dell saw the back of the net at the halfway mark to tie the contest, but Jared Staal would score the game winning goal at the 14:09 minute mark. John McFarland added cheers to the crowd as he scored the insurance marker with 12 seconds left in the game to make it a final score of 4-2.

"It felt pretty good to come back in the third period with lots energy and lots of jump and to do what we did," said Foligno.

"You got to give credit to these guys, they really worked as a team tonight."

John Kurtz took the role of captain Friday night after Gerome Giudice was relieved of his captain status due to off-ice disciplinary actions. Foligno said Kurtz was a good choice to fill the role.

"He's a very good leader, he's a very good person. I think he has the ear of the players in that room and he's very well respected," said the head coach and GM.

The evening was sponsored by Vale Inco and had performances by their band during the first intermission with their rendition of Stompin Tom Connor's Sudbury Saturday night. The Northern Sliders Sledge Hockey team also gave a demonstration for the crowd during the second intermission.

The Wolve's next home game will be Friday, Feb, 27 against the Oshawa Generals. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
