On May 22, the Sheridan Auditorium at Sudbury Secondary School will shine a spotlight on Joe Drago, founding principal of the school’s Performing Arts Program.
That day at 2 p.m., audience members who attend a special Variety Show celebrating the arts high school’s 30th anniversary reunion will share in a special moment — Drago will be brought to the stage he (figuratively) helped to build for a ceremony to name officially the Joe Drago Arts Hallway.
Although Drago is closely linked to hockey and Hockey Canada (the board of which he chairs), he is also a major arts advocate. Thirty-three years ago, it was Drago who decided Sudbury needed a specialized arts program for high school students, and pushed for it to be at Sudbury Secondary School, where he was principal at the time.
The first Performing Arts classes began in the fall of 1985.
The public is invited to share in the special event along with Drago and his family. All-inclusive passes to the Variety Show and post-show reception are $40, and can be purchased online (credit card) here. Passes are also available in the school office (cash or cheque only).
Tickets for the Variety Show alone are $20 and can be reserved in advance by contacting [email protected]. Tickets will also be sold at the door on May 22.
