Police respond to call of found dynamite, blow it up

On July 10, at approximately 6:30 p.m., police received a report of explosives being located approximately 5 kms down Pine St. S. Police attended the scene and confirmed the location of two sticks of dynamite and a blasting cap.

The scene remained secured by officers from the Timmins Police Service. This morning, members of the Ontario Provincial Police’s Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) attended. The explosives were transported to a remote location by EDU officers and were safely detonated.

The Timmins Police Service would like to remind the public to use extreme caution when dealing with found items such as explosives and other potentially harmful objects. The public is urged never to pick up or touch these types of items, and to call police immediately if located. The Timmins Police Service thanks the Ontario Provincial Police’s EDU for their assistance in this matter.
