THUNDER BAY – Snow could hit Thunder Bay as early as Thursday night.
Environment Canada on Tuesday afternoon issued a special weather statement for the city, indicating snowfall accumulation in excess of 10 centimetres could blanket the city, the result of a low-pressure system tracking over Lake Superior.
The statement says rain or snow will develop during the day on Thursday or later that night and will change to snow overnight. The heaviest snowfall is expected on Friday night and will be accompanied by gusting winds and blowing snow in some areas.
Those living closest to the lake will experience lighter snowfall accumulations than those living further away from the water.
In many areas the snow will continue into Saturday, ending later that day.
Environment Canada said the forecast comes with plenty of uncertainty and asks that residents continue to monitor alerts and forecasts.
