Two new fires in the northeast

Two new wildland fires were confirmed by the Ministry of Natural Resources on Friday.

Timmins 13, located approximately 6 km north of Highway 560 and 1 km west of Pigeon Lake, was confirmed Friday morning at 1.5 hectares and is not yet under control.

Kirkland Lake 9, confirmed late Friday afternoon and located approximately 10 km north of route 66 on the western shore of Kinabik Lake, is 0.1 hectares and is under control.

There are eight other active fires in the region, five of which are being observed. One fire is being held and the other fire is not yet under control.

In the central and southern portions of the region, the fire hazard is moderate to high.

The far northern portion of the region is showing a low to moderate hazard while an area north of Hornepayne and along Highway 11 north, as well as Chapleau and its surrounding area, are showing an extreme hazard as of Friday afternoon.
