Five face Edge in first-round playoff match-up
The Sudbury Five hit the court for their first ever NBL Canada playoff game on April 5, taking on the St. John's Edge. The Five finished the regular season third in the Central Division, while the St.John's Edge sit second, both with a record of 21 wins and 19 season losses. The Five and Edge begin their first-round series with two games in St.John's before heading to Sudbury on April 10, for the first-ever NBL Canada playoff game in the Nickel City. The hunt is on: Wolves will face 67s in round two
Get your foam fingers ready, because the Sudbury Wolves take their first bite of the second round of the OHL playoffs Friday against the Ottawa 67s. This will be the first time the Sudbury Wolves take to the ice in the second round of the playoffs since 2013 and who better to match with, than a team also celebrating a sweep of their first-round opponents. It has been a little over four months since the Wolves faced off against the 67s, tying the regular season series at one overtime win a piece, after a victory by Ottawa in October and Sudbury in November. Serré announces $1.3M in gas tax funds for Nickel Belt
Rural communities in the Nickel Belt riding will be sharing $1,359,428.80 in top up funding for municipal infrastructure projects such as road repairs, transit, waste water facilities, recreation facilities and tourism infrastructure, MP Marc Serré announced this week. “Investments in infrastructure are crucial to help diversify and grow local economies," said Serré. Teen driver caught driving more than 50 km/h over speed limit
On March 24 at around 2:15 a.m., Sudbury OPP entered into a traffic investigation involving a motorist traveling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit on Highway 69 in Greater Sudbury. As a result of the investigation, a 19-year-old man from Greater Sudbury was charged with race motor vehicle - excessive speed. Read the full story here.
Food Recall: Lee's Tea brand Teas
Lee's Provisions Inc. is recalling Lee's Tea brand teas from the marketplace due to possible Salmonella contamination. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased. Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis. Canadians avoid game seven with a big shutout win
The Rayside-Balfour Canadians avoided a seventh and deciding game in their NOJHL West Division semi-final series, coming through with their most complete effort of the post-season in blanking the Soo Eagles 4-0 Tuesday night in Michigan. The victory gave Rayside a four games to two series triumph, thus dodging the pressure that would have accompanied a do or die contest after leading the playoff match-up three games to none at one point. CSCNO names two new student trustees
Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) has named two new student trustees who will serve a two-year term starting this August. Mathieu Simon, a Grade 10 student at École secondaire catholique l’Horizon, will represent the Sudbury district, and Katelyn Trivers, a Grade 10 student at École secondaire catholique Jeunesse-Nord, will represent the Algoma and Manitoulin districts. Southwest winds reaching 30 km/h gusting to 50 km/h by noon, making the daytime high of 2 feel more like -14 Monday morning. Heavy clouds expected Monday evening and approximately 2-4 cm of additional snowfall. Strong winds should continue overnight, making the low of -4 feel like -10 with the wind chill.
