And they're off! NCF launches 2019 Move fitness series
Under the bright sun of this afternoon, the Northern Cancer Foundation (NCF) launched the 2019 Move fitness series with the fourth annual Snowshoe Trek for Cancer. This year, over 150 participants, six teams from the community and three teams from the Northern Cancer Foundation, embraced the frigid trails of Kivi Park to support cancer care and research. Lively Ski Hill set to open Jan. 16
The Lively Ski Hill is scheduled to open Jan. 16, Greater Sudbury announced Friday. Skiers and snow boarders can enjoy the hill beginning Wednesday, when it's scheduled to open from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Operating hours are dependent on weather conditions and may change without notice. Winners of cannabis store lottery announced
Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario has released the names of 25 winners of a lottery held to determine who may apply for the province's first cannabis retail licences. Winners now have five business days to submit formal applications with a $50,000 letter of credit and a $6,000 non-refundable fee. Find the full list of winners online, at Sudbury.com.
UPDATE: Highway 527 closed as OPP investigate suspicious death
Highway 527 remains closed and could be for several days according to the Ontario Provincial Police as an investigation is conducted into a suspicious death. According to a media release issued by the OPP Sunday afternoon, officers responded to information regarding a body located on the side of the road on Highway 527. N’Swakamok Native Friendship Centre is holding a screening of a film series entitled “Urban. Indigenous. Proud.” Jan. 21. Luukkonen returns to shut-out Steelheads
The Sudbury Wolves took a bite out of the Mississauga Steelheads last night, in their hosting of the division rivals. In his first game back after winning the 2019 IIHF U20 World Junior Championship for Team Finland, gold medallist Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made a total of 19 saves to earn a shut-out for the Wolves. Luukkonen, Adam Ruzicka and Blake Murray were named first, second and third stars of the gave respectively, with final shots 31-19 in favour of Sudbury. Five drop close game to Cape Breton Highlanders
For the first time, in a long time, the Sudbury Five moved into Saturday's matchup against the Cape Breton Highlanders with close to a full roster. Back on the court was guard Jaylen Bland, along with Sudbury's new big man, Isaiah "Big Dog" Johnson, and North Bay native, Joey Puddister.
