Ontario extends emergency orders to June 19
The Ontario government has extended all emergency orders currently in force under s.7.0.2 (4) of the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act to June 19 and adjusted the list of businesses considered essential, outlined therein. This extension was granted following consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, to give employers of front line care providers the flexibility to respond to COVID and protect the public as the province reopens. Sulphuric acid leak closes roadways from Falconbridge to Lively
Several roadways from Falconbridge to Lively were closed Friday night, for crews to clean up a sulphuric acid leak caused by a tanker truck. Greater Sudbury Fire Services were called in response and with the assistance by the Greater Sudbury Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police and Glencore, had roadways reopened by Saturday morning, as stated in a tweet by Jesse Oshell, deputy fire chief. Disability Tax Credit recipients get a one-time $600 bonus
Recipients of the federal Disability Tax Credit (DTC) are to receive a one-time $600 payment to offset extra expenses brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. This tax-free bonus was announced on Friday for all those who are certificate holders as of June 1, to support those experiencing job insecurity and others facing increased costs for personal support workers, medication, and medical supplies, as stated in a press release. Driver wanted for fleeing Mattawa Marina, damaging one police cruiser
A driver wanted by police could possibly be heading in the direction of Sudbury, following an incident at the marina in Mattawa. On June 5 around 4 a.m., members of the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting general patrol when they came across an SUV parked at the marina. Sudbury Steam revamps mask campaign to support local non-profits
What started as a side-job to fill a community need has become so much more for Sudbury Steam Cleaners, inspiring the family-run organization to revamp its mask campaign to provide direct funding to local non-profits. A little more than two months ago, the Nickel-city based laundry and dry cleaning organization began manufacturing masks with the promise that for every mask purchased, another would be donated. Local #FridaysForFuture World Environment Day broadcast internationally
Yesterday was World Environment Day, the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment. In these pandemic times, the local #FridaysForFuture youth group celebrated in a way that’s become familiar to many lately — through a Zoom meeting.
