A number of local businesses are pitching in this month to make donations to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation in support of breast cancer research.

On Oct. 1, the staff of Eyes of the Wild Tattoo Studio spent the day giving customers tattoo ribbons. The day's proceeds, totalling just over $3,000, was presented to the foundation.

Wind in Your Hair salon, a Hanmer hair salon, is donating the proceeds from the sale of highlights, hair extensions, manicures and pedicures to the foundation.

The salon is located at 5391 Hwy. 69 N in Hanmer, and can be contacted at 969-4247.

In addition, a group of 15 hair salons throughout northeastern Ontario will be selling fuchsia-coloured "loop n' lock" hair extensions throughout October with proceeds going to the foundation.

For a list of participating salons, phone 670-0611, ext. 300.

The four Curves fitness club locations in the city will be accepting donations to the foundation throughout October and will be hosting a "Girls Night In" in benefit of the foundation.

For more information, phone 566-2787 or 523-4673, ext. 2622.
