Ottawa filmmaker Elia Saikaly is coming to Laurentian University to present his film Finding Life, the emotional story of his journey retracing the footsteps of his mentor up the world's tallest mountain. The film won the Public Award at the Montreal International Adventure Film Festival.

It will run on Monday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. in the Fraser Auditorium. Everyone is welcome to attend. Admission is free but filmgoers are encouraged to make a donation to the orphanage Child Haven in Kathmandu.

On April 29, 2005, Saikaly learned of the death of his mentor, Dr. Sean Egan, on Mount Everest.

Egan, 63, a human kinetics professor at the University of Ottawa, died of a heart attack while attempting to become the oldest Canadian to conquer the treacherous mountain. Saikaly relived Egan's final moments. He'll talk about his filmmaking experience and the life lessons he learned.

In January 2009, Saikaly will embark on the next phase in his life journey when he and Dr. Norm O'Reilly, director of the school of sports administration at Laurentian University, will climb Mount Aconcagua in Argentina. The pair will discuss the expedition and take questions prior to the film on Dec. 1.
