Greater Sudbury Northern Life

After a successful fall tour that included 25 performances in 11 Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick cities, the Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario (TNO) presents Slague-L'histoire d'un mineur for two showings only, on Nov. 28 and 29 at 8 p.m. at TNO.

The play was written by northern Ontario playwright Mansel Robinson, translated by renowned author and actor Jean Marc Dalpé and directed by Geneviève Pineault, the TNO's artistic director.

"We received a warm welcome everywhere we went," says Pineault.

"The show was praised by the public and critics alike. Even Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, and her spouse, His Excellency Jean-Daniel Lafond, attended our Ottawa premiere at La Nouvelle Scène on Sep 24."

The production's success doesn't end there. Dalpé was a finalist for the 2008 Governor General's Literacy Awards for the French-language translation of Robinson's Roc'n Rail: Ghost Trains and Spitting Slag, published as Roc & rail: Trains fantôme suivi de Slague: l'histoire d'un mineur by Greater Sudbury publisher Prise de parole.

The TNO will celebrate the end of Slague's tour with the audience. On Friday, Nov. 28 spectators will be able to take part in a question and answer session with the artists after the show.

Then, on Saturday, Nov. 29, the TNO will host a party for attendees of that performance where they can purchase a copy of Roc & rail and have it signed by Dalpé.

The TNO would like to thank Xstrata Nickel and Laurentian University for its support for the creation and 2008 tour of this production.
