The Last of the Red Hot Lovers is a great way to celebrate the start of the holiday season at Theatre Cambrian's latest dinner/theatre held at the Jubilee Centre.

There are three shows left - Dec. 4, 5 and 6 from 6 to 10 p.m.

In Lovers, Neil Simon takes on a middle-aged man's inept attempts at adultery.

Because of Simon's incisive and witty dialogue, this comedy survives a generation after its 1969 debut at Broadway's Eugene O'Neill Theatre, where it ran for 706 performances.

Alan Arkin revived the role of Barney in the 1972 Hollywood film production. Simon's multiple one-liners and his underlying understanding of human nature make his plays survivors.

Jim McLaughlin, a newcomer to the Theatre Cambrian stage, plays the leading role of Barney, a fish-restaurant owner who can't shake off the scent of the sea, among other flaws that impede his seductions.

After 23 years of marriage, he's looking for "meaning" in his life, a chance to experience things, emotions, stimulants he's never experienced before.

Kim Hynes plays his first victim/stimulant, Elaine Navazio, a hard-drinking femme fatale whose matter-of-fact approach to the whole situation befuddles the "staid" Barney at every turn.

Enter Mary Ellen McEwin as Bobbi Michele, a neurotic, unemployed actress whose life-long mishaps race out of control as she pours them out non-stop to Barney. Things get even more exotic as she starts smoking "funny" cigarettes. Suddenly, Barney finds himself in a psychedelic cloud.

Following up on her star turn as Ma Peterson in last year's Bye, Bye Birdie, Evie Moores tackles the role of Jeanette Fisher, Barney's next prey and his wife's manic-depressive best friend. Her middle-class prudery and innate sense of morality confound Barney at every turn.

Tickets are $42.50 each and include a catered buffet provided by Diana's Catering. Tickets are available at Records on Wheels, or reservations may be made by VISA or MasterCard by phoning 705-524-7317.
