LU prof heading to Beijing Olympics

Norm O'Reilly, director of the School of Sports Administration and director of the Institute for Sport Marketing at Laurentian University, has been named to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Mission Team.

Norm O'Reilly, director of the School of Sports Administration and director of the Institute for Sport Marketing at Laurentian University, has been named to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Mission Team.

He will work with the Canadian Olympic Committee as administrative officer at the Canada Olympic House.
The Olympic Games in Beijing, China, will be held from Aug. 8 to Aug. 24.

O'Reilly had a similar position for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

Reilly is an researcher and teacher, and a sport industry contributor.

He has published two books, more than 25 articles in management journals and has presented his work at more than 50 conferences around the world.

His areas of interest include sport management, sponsorship, technology management, management education, and social marketing.

O'Reilly also has extensive experience in sport that includes professional and volunteer positions including senior policy officer at Sport Canada and event manager for the 2008 Toronto Olympic bid.

Members of the mission team will provide support in areas including health care and sport science, village operations, transportation, communications, performance centre, outfitting and Canada Olympic House.
