Thirty-year-old Meagan McGrath recently completed her latest adventure, the 245 km Marathon des Sables in Morocco.
McGrath will be making a presentation at Science North's Imax Theatre on April 10 at 7 pm, about the experience. McGrath will speak about why she decided to do the marathon, how she trained and prepared for the race and how she coped with the extreme heat of the Sahara desert.
The more than 800 participants in the Marathon des Sables ran 20 km per day and, at one point, ran an 84 km stretch, stated a news release. They were required to carry all of their belongings and food during the race, except water and tents. Competitors were required to carry anti-venom kits. Obstacles of the marathon were extreme heat, varying terrain, sand storms, and hazardous insects and animals.
Science North is a sponsor of McGrath's Marathon des Sables adventure.
Tickets are $12 for Science North members and $14 for the public.
