The Sault Ste. Marie family recently took part in the cleft lip and palate/craniofacial service at Cambrian College.

Every year, a team of specialists from Bloorview Kids Rehab in Toronto provide services at one-day clinics, held throughout northern Ontario.

The team also visited Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay and Timmins. Cleft lip and palate/craniofacial team professionals assess and treat children from across the province who have conditions that affect teeth and facial structure.

Some patients are treated for missing teeth and jaws. Speech-language pathologists, a social worker and a neuropsychologist work with dental and medical specialists, including audiologists, plastic surgeons and ear-nose-throat specialists.

The team co-ordinates local treatments and travel to Toronto for patients who need complex care.
