 The snow may not stick around for long just yet, but some critters are starting to hibernate for the winter. Chelmsford’s Janet Young took this picture of a beaver lodge one morning, in the Windy Lake area.

Beavers have an active life all winter long, even when trapped under the ice, according to the Beavers Wetland and Wildlife organization at beaversww.org. They normally store enough food underwater to last them until the ice melts and retrieve it through their underwater exits and entrances to their lodges.
