This past Thursday, École Secondaire du Sacré-Coeur hosted its
fourth annual spaghetti supper to raise funds for the year's
activities. Aside from the dinner, the students sold raffle
tickets for gas from Esso (a donation from Paul Lizotte Fuels).
The grand prize of $1,000 was awarded to Michel Rancourt of
Sudbury.
Grateful for the funds amassed is the Alzheimer's Society of
Sudbury, who receives continuing support from Sacré-Coeur, the
only school in the region that offers a high skills major in
Health and Well-Being. The society will receive 20 per cent of
all profits from the spaghetti supper.
The night's events were not limited to a great meal provided by
Grey Power, but also included a daycare service, a silent
auction, and live music - all organized by students and
faculty. Talented students, and even two teachers showcased
their musical abilities through various mediums. They performed
covers of hit rock and pop tunes, medleys, and Francophone
compositions.
A wide range of businesses generously donated more than 50
items to the silent auction, which, yet again, attracted many
participants. The students would also like to thank Ward 12
councillor Joscelyne Landry-Altman for her contribution towards
this fundraiser. This evening of fun with friends and family
continues to solidify the school's growing reputation in
regards to community involvement. Chantal Trépanier, teacher
and student council advisor, expresses her thanks by saying:
"It is incredible how we all worked together, students, staff
members and volunteers, in order to make this night a success.
'Le Festin des Griffons' is our only fundraiser for the year
which helps the students pay for transportation to and from
extra-curricular activities and events throughout the school
year.
"On behalf of the student council, I would like to thank all
faculty members, students, parents and members of our community
who continuously contribute towards Sacré-Coeur."
